"Affecting a clarity and delight that pleases the many and confounds the some, their lyrically alluring, structurally hop-skip-and-jumping songs aren't deep. They're just thoughtful fun. "- MSN Consumer Guide

For Emma, Forever Ago
"For Emma, Forever Ago is such a hermetically sealed, complete and satisfying album, the prospect of a follow-up--of a life for Vernon beyond the wilderness, even - seems merely extraneous. "- Uncut

Wolf Parade
At Mount Zoomer
"Although "Queen Mary" was a strong showing, At Mount Zoomer--named for the band's recording space--is an instant classic, distancing itself from indie rock's skin-deep quirks on the way to something grander and more enduring. "- Hartford Courant

Keep Your Eyes Ahead
Keep Your Eyes Ahead
"It's a lot of sound for two guys (singer-guitarist Brandon Summers and drummer Benjamin Weikel), suggesting that every minute since 2004's "Love And Distance" was utilized to perfect the pair's already steady hand at soaring, addictive melodies, pleasant layers of guitar and keyboards, and clean, visceral drumming. "NOMO have created their own brand of music from these pieces -- one that is cohesive, dramatic, fluid, seamless, and lyrical. It defies expectations and easy categorization. Ghost Rock is a giant leap forward. This is the instrumental band to watch. Period."- Allmusic

Only By the Night
"The dreamy 'Cold Desert' is the perfect maudlin end to this short, sharp, 42-minute, no-filler album, revelling in every miserable blues-rocker cliché as Matthew's guitar goes all shoegazey and then briefly threatens to turn the whole thing into a 'Purple Rain' wig-out. "- Observer Music Monthly

Ryan Adams & The Cardinals
Cardinology
"Ryan Adams and his backing band The Cardinals have got their sound down to a science, all right: Cardinology, as embodied by their fourth album in as many years, is a precisely calibrated method of creating cool, reflective pools of vocal harmonies and pedal steel, accented from time to time by fiery electric-guitar licks. Halfway update
Some stats.
Lists submitted: Only 14. I'm trying to get the thread stickied for the final three days of voting. Last year our total was somewhere near 40 members.
# of albums with votes: 136
# of albums with #1 votes: 10. 3 albums have had 2 #1 votes, and the one remaining #1 vote was for a 2007 album, so it wasn't counted.
Some facts.
The #1 album on the list... hasn't gotten a #1 vote yet. Kind of like the White Stripes last year, which finished #2, but didn't get a single #1 vote. However, albums 2, 3, & 4 have all gotten two #1 votes.
Although the #1 album doesn't have any #1 votes, the #79 album does (it was the only list it has appeared on).
Two albums (#1 & #2) have been on 8 lists, the most frequently listed albums. 2 albums were listed on 7, 1 on 6, and a ton after that.
Unless my mind is blanking, only one band/artist in the top 25 had an album appearing on last year's list.
There are 3 EPs on the list, with the highest being #38, and the lowest being in a 5 way tie for last place with a single point.
